Happy Party Trio

For the last four years, the Museum has partnered with the Young Benefactors to create a night full of generosity and good times. In 2016, Drafts for Crafts helped fund the final push in the decade-long restoration of PT-305, The National WWII Museum’s WWII combat-veteran patrol-torpedo boat. In 2017, we're thrilled to be celebrating the relaunch of this signature macro-artifact, as PT-305 returns to Lake Pontchartrain for her first year back on the water.

PT-305 Being Moved

Heavily armed, equipped with advanced technology, uniquely maneuverable, often ingeniously modified, and reliant on cooperation and teamwork, patrol-torpedo boats were a critical asset for the US Navy during World War II and a perfect expression of the American Spirit at war. Built in New Orleans by Higgins Industries, PT-305 saw combat in the Mediterranean before serving a long postwar life as a workboat in several locations. In April 2007, accompanied by Museum curators, PT-305 found her way back to New Orleans, where The National WWII Museum became her home on land until she could be returned to her former glory. Now fully restored, PT-305 is returning to duty on Lake Pontchartrain—where she was tested before shipping off to war—for rides and tours starting in April 2017.

Located at The National WWII Museum, the Pavilion can be accessed through the historic firehouse on Magazine Street, between Poeyfarre and Calliope Streets.
